Learn English at St Chads!
We offer three different levels of classes:
Beginner (English Plus) : Wednesdays and Fridays 9.30-11.30am at St Chads Community Project with Zahra (term-time only)
Intermediary (English Plus One): Online Classes via video with Hilary
Advanced (English Plus Two): Online Classes via video with Hilary
To allow parents to attend, we also offer a free creche during the time of the group with our qualified childcare staff. You can read more about our childcare services here.
The absolute beginners’ class, facilitated by our very adept classroom assistant, Zahra from GEM Arts, acts as more of a ‘drop in’ rather than a formal class: a place where students can attend for all or some of the two hour time slot available to them to learn the basics of English. This new approach has also created space for any potential students to be assessed and then placed in the correct group according to their ability to use written and spoken English. The flexible nature of the ‘absolute beginners’ classes also supports the environment in which asylum seekers often find themselves, in particular one of being in a new country with a new language, new systems and authorities to negotiate and offers the opportunity for them to ask for help and guidance with form filling and other information.
Our ESOL group also regularly share celebrations together and go on class trips, we encourage learning both in and outside of the classroom.
