Welcome to St Chad’s Market!

St Chad’s Market launched on 15th September 2025, when we welcomed well-known broadcaster and local legend Si King to cut our ‘sausage’ ribbon and officially launch the project. We welcomed The Honourable Councillor Freda Geddes, The Mayor Of Gateshead, Special Guests from our Out of School Club alongside just over 300 community members. See official photos below from the event.

The project is the culmination of one year of building works to turn an un-used part of our ex-army drill hall building into a purpose built community space. We are grateful to our funders, Feeding Britain, The National Lottery Community Fund and Gateshead Council for their support of the building works, and for the businesses mentioned below for their support in the run up to opening.

Faulkner Browns Architects, ARUP Structural Engineers, A Douglas Construction, C&B Electrical, Spark EPOS, Gateshead Food Partnership, Northumbria University, Greenheart Collective, Spotty Dog Signs and Print, Print North East, Hillstar Building Management.

The project relies on an amazing team of volunteers whose passion and commitment make everything possible. If you would like to find out more about the people behind the project or explore ways to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Find out more about volunteering!

St Chad’s Market runs on a membership basis and is open to everyone, find out more in the poster below;

If you’re an organisation looking to find out more about how the project operates or explore opportunities to get involved, please email our Community Retail Manager, Edie, at edie@stchadscommunityproject.org to arrange a visit at a quieter time when the Market team has more availability.
